No space left on device
i am using ubuntu 12.04 32 bit when i start my pc and login to my user it shows following window ==> "the system is running in low-graphics mode" ==> your screen,graphics card and input device setting could not be detected correctly.you will need to configure these yourself. in my pc there are 2 os first windows 7 and second ubuntu 12.04..my windows is properly running but when i login to ubuntu it shows above message i cant access to it cant be fix....
Would be better to ask on ubuntuforums. Are you able to check trash? Do you have gparted on your Ubuuntu distro and can you access it? Were you ever able to run Ubuntu after installing it?
hello i assembled the new pc and work. but i cant access data in my old pc because of error but when i type ctrl+alt+F2 then i got terminal when i type command df -h it show fullspace /dev/sda6 285G 285G 0 100% / udev 2.0G 12K 2.0G 1% /dev tmpfs 392M 864K 391M 1% /run none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock none 2.0G 48M 1.9G 3% /run/shm and when i update or upgrade pc sudo apt-get install or sudo apt-get upgrade it cant update.
Seeing as you have access to the command line, maybe try: cd / ls -la then you will see all the directories in root, maybe /home has too much on it. Maybe /var/log has become LARGE, although I thought logs were automatically pruned to keep them under control. So, have you got some extremely large directories? Also, you didn't answer my questions ... which will limit my ability to figure out what could be wrong.
now automatic i have login to my user account but when i execute the command it shoe more space to occupied instead it is free.. sometime error show and some time not sachin@Atishay:~/ltib$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda6 285G 253G 30G 90% / udev 2.0G 4.0K 2.0G 1% /dev tmpfs 392M 864K 391M 1% /run none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock none 2.0G 17M 1.9G 1% /run/shm

after entering via ctrl+alt+f2 i clean some unnecessary data and files. which create some temporary empty space so that i can login as normal user then i removed all data on trash. but again in doing sudo apt-get update or upgrade same issue appears. also on my system i am using windows 7 along with ubuntu 12.04 in my case when i log in using windows it works perfectly. i am not sure is it issue regarding disk partition where my ubuntu tooks some extra space as required
On 2nd thought looking at the size of directories is going to be a long painful process. Try: sudo apt-get install minicom (which you probably already have) does it say you have it? apt-get uses a list in/etc/apt called sources.list (I think) Can you ping www.google.com ? What is the error message you get when you apt-get update ?
now when i enter command from net ->sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop ->sudo reboot ->sudo apt-get update ->sudo apt-get upgrade it execute succesfull and now i am check ->df -h sachin@Atishay:~$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda6 285G 200G 83G 71% / udev 2.0G 4.0K 2.0G 1% /dev tmpfs 392M 864K 391M 1% /run none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock none 2.0G 44M 1.9G 3% /run/shm
but now space is automatic full again slowly==> sachin@Atishay:~$ df -h Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on /dev/sda6 285G 221G 62G 79% / udev 2.0G 4.0K 2.0G 1% /dev tmpfs 392M 864K 391M 1% /run none 5.0M 0 5.0M 0% /run/lock none 2.0G 83M 1.9G 5% /run/shm
1) Try your install again 2) Disconnect yourself from the net and observe /dev/sda6 3) There is a good chance this has happened to someone else, so again search the Ubuntu forums
> erase old and install new one ubuntu, what ... desktop? and it didn't work the previous time ->sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop Or, did you do a complete ubuntu install?
yes i have completely remove old one and install new... this command "sudo apt-get install --reinstall ubuntu-desktop" solved the error of "the system running in low graphics mode" only but the space issue remains same thats why i install new....now it works properly.
