Could not flash with Jtag using Usb to DB25 pin connector

Ayyappan Muthukrishnan
Hi,

I was trying to flash with H-Jtag using USB to parallel port converter as
my PC dont have parallel port. after applying settings as mentioned in
download manual for LPT Jtag Setting I am getting a message "Can't open the
H-Jtag Usb Hardware. Please check the connection."

Is there any specific USB protocol version only supported(like USB 2.0, USB
3.0)?

I dont know which version of USB device i am using.

please help how to solve this problem!

davef
I would be surprised if the USB protocol version had anything to do with
it.

Are you running Windows or Linux? For Windows does the device show up in
Device Manager, for Linux and using a dmesg command can you see the device?

In Linux lsusb is another handy command.

Hi,
The USB to parallel port convertor you are using is most likely designed
for the USB printer class protocol. It is not designed for individual port
pin access as required by JTAG. I don't think you can use it for JTAG.

Check in your Device Manager (if you are running Windows) if your USB
device appears as a Printer device or as a Port class device.

I am also facing the same problem. After doing some search in internet,
found that USB to DB25 can not be used as a replacement for Parallel port
for JTAG in Windows using exe H-JTAG.

And i am not sure whether we can use it in Linux or not. i have not found
any exe to use in Linux for JTAG flashing.

do any one found the exe that can be used in Ubuntu (or Windows 7) for JTAG
flashing, using the USB to Db25?

I need to flash the NOR for Mini2440.

Hi,

I am using Windows 7 OS. In Device Manager -> Universal Serial Bus
Controllers I see as "USB Printing Support Device" when Jtag is connected
to the PC via USB to DB25 pin converter.

If it is not possible to interface Jtag via this converter what is the
alternative solution? Please help!

MorningSun
As per my knowledge, the converter USB to DB25 is for printer devices.

Should I use Jtag port with USB interface instead of parallel port if USB
to DB25 will not work at anyway? If so where can I get Jtag port with USB
interface?

Please help!

Hi,

I was able to work with Jtag to flash files using my old pc which came with
parallel port by default. The old PC became unusable, and in my new PC
parallel port is not available. So I tried first with USB to Parallel Port
converter and found that it will work for printers alone. So I bought PCI
express parallel port card and connected to the PC. Now also the Jtag
server is showing the same message what it prompted for usb to parallel
port converter. that message is "Can't open the H-Jtag Usb Hardware. Please
check the connection." So far I have spent above 1000 INR to make it work.

Please tell me the exact accessory or solution so that I can make the 7500
INR worth mini2440 board work.If it is not possible then this is a product
of hell. Atleast the product should have supported by any accessories to
adapt the new trend I hope, otherwise I have the only option to dispose the
mini2440 board and waste the 7500 INR.

Hi Ayyappan,

You cannot use USB-to-Parallel Port Printer converters as they implement
the USB printer device class.

You need to use a USB JTAG hardware device such as the one below:

http://robokits.co.in/programmers/j-link-usb-arm7-arm9-arm11-cortex-m3-d...

You can flash any file using this device.

Good luck!

Gautam
@Ayyappan,

You need to download the JLink software for the above device from
www.segger.com

Cheers!

Hi Gautam,

The Jlink flasher kit you have mentioned is 20 pin connector but mini2440
board has 10 pin Jtag connector. So it cannot be used. Do you know any
other options?

Please help!
