Tiny210 SDK problems

TheFwGuy
Recently I'm experiencing some problems with the Tiny210 SDK and the
capacitive screen and I wonder if these are known issues.

The board is running Android.

The first problem is related to the screen.
Often it starts to act like if somebody is touching it. Applications
starts, close, do something totally random.
It seems the screen is over sensitive. It is working, meaning that
touching it does what is supposed to do, but also not touching it,
randomly, is like it simulates the touch.

The second problem is related to the WiFi module.
It worked nice for few months, but now I can connect with a maximum speed
of 1 Mbps ! And of course any attempt to use the connection, fails.

Any idea ?
There are PCB issues or HW degradation over time of the SDK board ?
Of course I checked all the connections, the cables are OK and apparently
all is normal, but this behavior is definitively NOT correct.

Thanks

is the unit properly earthed? Does it work with an ethernet or serial
cable plugged in? obviously don't start the ethernet but attaching the
cable should earth it and may get rid of stray capacitance.

TheFwGuy
Hi Reggie

No, the unit is not earthed at all since is powered by a power supply with
no ground and no other cables are attached, exactly like a normal tablet or
smartphone when powered by an external power supply.
No Ethernet cables are connected either, the only cable connected is the
power supply.
The LAN connection is provided via the WiFi module, but also this one is
not behaving properly since it is connected but the maximum speed is around
1 Mbps.

Until a week ago the unit was working normally and the WiFi speed was
around 54 Mbps as expected.

Thanks

Not sure what to suggest, contact the supplier of your board and get them
to report it to friendlyarm. There have been some issues recently with the
cap touch screens but they seem to be very sparsely spread out.

TheRegnirps
Normally a tablet is grounded to the case - and you if you are holding it.

However there may be an issue with the cap touch driver. In Android, go tot
he tools and the pointer app. If you press harder than needed, more like
for a resistive touch, and hold in one place for 15 to 30 seconds, can you
lift and start a second cross hair without the first one clearing?

This an other unexpected behavior is being looked into, including
contacting the cap touch layer manufacturer about driver enhancements.

The WiFi problem is something else. It is IIC if I recall, or? I have seen
no reports of this problem. A change in a week means something broke or a
software update or parameter change or something like that. Take a close
look at the chip antenna and the header.

TheFwGuy
Hi Reggie

I'll try to contact them, mostly the reason of the post was to know if
other experienced this kind of problems, before to chase ghosts :)
i.e. I wanted to have a feedback to see how much reliable is the SDK on the
hardware point of view.

TheRegnirps, thanks.
The problem with the screen anyway happens also without having the board on
an hand, i.e. not touching it at all and the screen is capacitive, not
resistive, so I can not run the calibration tool.
It is possible that the WiFi problem is unrelated to the screen one, still
is a weird coincidence that happened at the same time.
I'll take the board apart again and re-check all the connections.

TheFwGuy
Do you think that creating a shield, like adding a metal base or putting
the card in a metal box, can help ?

Reggie
The wifi is SDIO btw.
