Nano - syntax hilighting

Has anyone got syntax hilighting to work in Nano?  I have problems with
examples that use \< and \> at the ends of a string of words.

I get the error:

Bad regex "[[:<:]] . . . [[:>:]]": Invalid character class name

Seems to be a problem with regex word boundary extensions.

Find the right combination of keywords and Google provides:

"replace both \< and \> with \b
