Hi, Anyone here familiar or have used this board based on samsung's S5PV210? http://www.wvshare.com/product/x210ii-Package-C.htm I'm having difficulties understanding the process involved in getting android running from SD card Thanks
S5PV210 Development
That doesn't look like a friendlyArm board, why would anyone want to support a competitor's hardware?
"why would anyone want to support a competitor's hardware" cause if some don't get support one palace than goes somewhere else and try. I got my VT6656 WiFi from "andahammer" and no one responded at all, you think I haven't posted on 4-5 other forum to try get my driver working !?!
Andahammer are usually very good with support, I would try emailing or phoning them again. Why would I think anything about you and posting on 4-5 other forums? Until you posted here I didn't even know you existed :-) Did you try doing a search on the forum? There appears to be plenty of information about the VT6656 driver.
They call their bootloader 'xboot' and it has command line functions. I think it is pretty different. They all use the Samsung stepping stone loader as a basis (under NDA) then customize. The Superboot instructions for FriendlyARM 210s probably won't work. Does yours require placing a copy of the bootloader on the SD card using a proprietary Windows utility?
Reggie- I didn't know you existed either, you must be a forum admin or own something here or acting like ..... http://www.friendlyarm.net/forum/topic/4661
Not at all, I just see a post with someone else's hardware asking for support and then you hijacking a thread to support your problem. I wonder if Asus support Gigabyte :-)
btw. Dezso, did you try looking here? http://code.google.com/p/friendlyarm/downloads/list
Its interesting how people on this forum consider themselves to be the "support" unit for a specific platform. I also own a mini2440 and have made several posts regarding the mini2440 - it seemed logical at the time that anyone with experience in development on embedded platforms would be able to assist on any other such platform but perhaps my approach to open communities is a bit extreme considering the responses observed above. Its quite simple if you have information and want to share then please do so... none of the embedded platforms in existence today came to be successful without cross-development and trading knowledge between different platforms. I'd be embarrassed being part of something which appears to promote open source platforms but instead are loyal to a specific platform. Flame away :)
Andret, whilst I questioned the motives, I did share information, however, imho it's poor form to buy a product from somewhere and then go and ask a competitors support forums for support and then someone tacking their own questions onto the end of someone else's post about a completely different 'thing' is also poor form and the original poster didn't get the help he wanted. The original poster has just posted that he's got problems understanding the process of getting android onto an SD card. Does he even own the board yet? Do we know what software he's using? Would he like us to do it all for him? I am happy to help people out, in the last week I've helped a complete novice do a full buildroot build with a 2440, fixed up bugs, got their custom software compiled with all of the lib support they required and I don't even own a 2440 board. I have also written numerous tutorials for the 210S, which anyone is free to read http://armworks.cc/index.php?title=Mini210S and we have the #2440 IRC channel on freenode, is that open enough for you? Later on I might even publish my script for burning superboot to an SD card in linux, if it works ;-) What annoys me the most is the lack of information in these types of post, there isn't a link to a tutorial, software, anything, we don't even know what methods he's tried. For all we know, he's written the data in honey on a piece of toast and is throwing it at the SD card hoping some of it will stick!!!
If you want help, provide more information, help other people to help you. I still have absolutely no idea how you're trying to get android running on your board. Also, if this were a general embedded devices forum, I wouldn't have an issue with people asking about other manufacturers boards, it's the right place to do it but personally, if I owned friendlyarm, I wouldn't want any of my engineers/programmers/staff wasting their time answering questions for other peoples products, I'd want my staff to spend their time fixing our clients/clients problems. there's a big difference between open source and free support :-)
Reggie, I don't know why you are so serious about sticking to FriendlyArm devices only. All Samsung devboards have problems with support. I think, that if people are asking about S3C2410, S3C6410 or S5PV210 device - it is ok. I have looked to other forums several times trying to find solution for some problems. Many interesting threads here dies after few posts without solution or even get 0 answers. I don't know even how to ask FriendlyARM for support because I have never got answer from their official email.
What I'm saying is that if you want support for general arm/embedded devices, there are better places to ask the questions and don't be surprised if no one answers a question about a device that's not supported here :-) Like I said, there is a difference between open source and free support. Some of the platform might be open source (some of it really isn't) but that doesn't mean to say FA or anyone else should just support what you have.
I have not asked anyone in this thread to help with my problem, simply give you a example why would someone ask question in other hardware forum. dezso 2012-11-02 01:18:56 "why would anyone want to support a competitor's hardware" cause if some don't get support one palace than goes somewhere else and try. Where so you see that I'm hijacking the original poster message to get support with my hardware. Like I wrote already. Drop it man........
