Serial communication ans mini 2440

Chris Cashmore
Hi Guys,
I am new to the whole mini2440, embedded linux thing. Is the only
way to change the OS or do anything in NANd or NOR flash with the RS232
cable? As I no longer have a computer with serial ports.
I would like to try other OS' and experiment more, but can't seem to get
anywhere.
Or is there a USB -> serial adaptor that would work with newer laptops
running Fedora 14?

Also, when I log in with User=plg and Pass=plg, I can only do limited
things, I cannot create directories in certain places.
Is there a root account that has unlimited power?

Thanks Chris.

I use a rs-usb converter base on the FT232R chipset. It's supported under
linux - just plug ang play. You can find it on ebay for example.

My mini2440 have a mini usb-serial adapter soldered on con1 so I can use a
mini usb cable for the serial console.
much easier than the big RS232 serial to usb adapter.

Have you tried not logging in? On mine with the factory Linux, press return
and I'm root.

You should start a new thread or add your question to an existing
mini6410/DNW thread.

Then describe what you have done, so far.
